SGV is Synhelion’s first marine fuel customer

Synhelion and Lake Lucerne Navigation Company (SGV AG) enter into a strategic collaboration to support the scaling of sustainable marine fuels. In 2025, SGV AG plans to use Synhelion’s solar fuels for an exclusive experience aboard the historic steamboat Gallia. This will make Gallia the first passenger ship in the world to be powered by a small fraction of the sustainable fuel produced by cleantech scale-up company Synhelion.

Full steam ahead for a sustainable future
As the largest shipping company in Switzerland, SGV AG transports three million passengers each year. Sustainability and emissions reduction are key strategic goals for the company. In the coming years, their focus will be on reducing the use of fossil fuels.
SGV intends to use DAWN’s solar fuels for an exclusive experience on board the historic steamboat Gallia. The new offer will be available from spring 2025 and will combine culinary delights with the picturesque backdrop of Lake Lucerne. With this offer, SGV is addressing the growing demand for exceptional experiences from guests from near and far.
This makes SGV a pioneering marine customer of Synhelion’s renewable solar fuels from plant DAWN. SGV and Synhelion are planning a long-term partnership and will disclose further information thereon in 2024.

Solar fuels for sustainable transportation
In June 2024, Synhelion inaugurated DAWN, the world’s first industrial-scale plant to produce synthetic fuels using solar heat in Jülich, Germany. By inaugurating DAWN, Synhelion proves that the technology to produce solar fuels is ready for large scaling. At DAWN, Synhelion will produce solar kerosene for aviation as well as solar gasoline and solar diesel for road transportation and shipping applications. The renewable fuels will demonstrate the technology’s potential to defossilize the transportation sector.
