Fueling aviation’s net-zero future

Sustainable Aviation Fuel

The only viable solution to defossilize aviation is Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Synhelion’s solar SAF enables net-zero flying by replacing fossil fuels with a clean, drop-in replacement. Produced from renewable energy, it is fully compatible with existing aircraft and infrastructure – helping aviation to cut emissions by up to 99%.

This is the future of flight – sustainable, scalable, and ready today.

Key characteristics and benefits

Sustainability

Produced from RED-II-compliant biomass waste and solar energy, Synhelion’s SAF reduces lifecycle CO2 emissions by up to 99% compared to fossil fuels.

Compatibility

Synhelion’s SAF is a drop-in fuel that is fully compatible with today’s global fuel infrastructure and engines. No modifications are needed to storage facilities, distribution infrastructure, aircraft, or engine fuel systems.

Performance

Synhelion’s SAF delivers the same flight range and engine performance as fossil jet fuel, ensuring uncompromised efficiency.

Compliance

Synhelion’s SAF is fully compliant with aviation fuel standards. Our neat SAF meets the specifications of ASTM D7566 (FT-SPK). When blended with conventional jet fuel, our fuel is ASTM D1655 compliant and ready for commercial use.

Air quality

Due to the absence of impurities like aromatics found in fossil fuels, our SAF burns cleaner, contributing to improved air quality and less contrail formation.

Facts and outlook

Global CO2 emissions
Today, aviation accounts for around 2 to 3% of global CO2 emissions.

The SAF market is set to skyrocket
Regulations worldwide are further accelerating SAF production and adoption.

Market size
SAF demand is expected to increase to 192 million tons per year in 2050.

Defossilization strategy
SAF is the only viable solution to defossilize aviation.

Our SAF customers

Lufthansa Group and Swiss International Air Lines

Lufthansa Group and its subsidiary SWISS have been partners of Synhelion since 2020, and shareholders of Synhelion since 2022. Our collaboration is based on our joint vision to defossilize aviation thanks to solar fuels. SWISS will be Synhelion’s first airline SAF customer.

Pilatus Aircraft

To accelerate the scaling of solar fuels, Swiss aircraft manufacturer Pilatus and Synhelion have become strategic partners in 2024.
Pilatus is also a shareholder in Synhelion, and has signed a five-year offtake agreement, committing to purchase SAF from 2027.
